Medicaid is a program that provides medical coverage to certain low-income residents of Missouri. Medicaid provides medical coverage for families, children, pregnant women and people with disabilities, if the federal and the state guidelines are met. Low income is not the sole requirement to receive Medicaid assistance. There are many people with low-income but still not eligible to receive the coverage because they do not meet the guidelines set by the federal and state government of Missouri. Medicaid in Missouri Guidelines for Adults, Pregnant women and Children:
Pregnant women whose income is 185 percent of the federal poverty line are eligible for Medicaid coverage. The pregnant women should also be a resident of Missouri and a citizen of the United States in order to receive the benefits. Children between the ages 1 and 19 are eligible for Medicaid assistance if their family income is less than the federal poverty line. Infants and children ages 1 to 19 in families whose income is up to 300 percent of the poverty level are eligible for Medicaid benefits in Missouri. Adults who take care of children under age 18 and teenagers up to the age 21 who live on their own qualify for Medicaid assistance if they are residents of Missouri and if their income is less than the federal poverty line.
Medicaid in Missouri Guidelines Disabled:
People who have permanent disabilities can receive Medicaid benefits if their income is 80 percent of the federal poverty line and if they are legal resident of the state of Missouri. Very poor and disabled people who qualify for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits also qualify for Medicaid assistance. Disabled people should also know that those whose income increases and no longer qualify for SSI may be able to continue to get their Medicaid benefits if they elderly and are considered disabled and continue to have medical need.
